British Soccer Camp – Smashing!!
What an exciting week! Last week campers from Rockwall, Royse City, Caddo Mills, Greenville, and surrounding towns participated in the Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp hosted by the Royse City Soccer Association. This year the camp had over 45 kids participating ranging in age from age 3 through 11. As successful as this year’s camp was we expect an even larger number next year!
Each camper received a free t-shirt, soccer ball and game award. Coaches from N. Ireland, Scotland and England (all of them coaches back home) helped the kids practice and master new skills, understand small group and team tactics and scrimmaged each day. During the camp, the kids were put into a World Cup team for the week long camp tournament. Campers learned about their country and dressed in their colors for the World Cup finals on Friday. This year “ Wales” won the World Cup tournament.
British Soccer Camp is just one of 1600 that Challenger Sports runs throughout the U.S. and Canada. It has been established as a true “Total Soccer Company,” providing camps, clinics, tours, tournaments, uniforms and coaching materials to thousands of clubs throughout North America. Over 80,000 players will be coached at British Soccer camps in 1,700 communities this year. One of the added features of a British Soccer Camp is the rich cultural element that the coaches add to the activities every day.
Our coaches this year, Paddy, Alex, Del and Rob experienced Texas life as they lived with host families in the area. Their only obstacle... the heat!
“Our coach was fantastic. It was a lot of fun having him in our home. He adjusted well to our home life and interacted great with my kids. He was always courteous, easy going and neat. I’m looking forward to hosting another coach next year.” – Shelley George.
RCSA is always looking for host families and it is an added treat for your child to have one of their coaches living with you. If you would like to experience this unique opportunity next year, do not hesitate to step up and open your home.

From 2007's press release:
The British Came to Royse City!
Sponsored by the Royse City Soccer Association
The number one youth soccer company in the United States, Challenger Sports was invited to hold one of their nationwide British Soccer training camps in Royse City last week. The camp ran Monday through Friday and each child was coached by Craig Gill from Birmingham, England and Chris Osborne from London, England. They are members of Challenger’s British coaching staff flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs. This camp was just one of 1500 that Challenger Sports is running throughout the US and Canada for a record breaking 65,000 boys and girls of all ages.
Challenger has become the largest soccer camp provider in North America by combining consistently high quality, age specific soccer instruction, along with equally important elements of character, cultural, and nutritional education. Each day the children practiced and mastered new individual skills and understanding small group and team tactics through Challenger’s innovative camp curriculum. Camper also scrimmaged each day in the popular Camp World Cup. The coaches also took time out of the busy week to teach lessons on Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Sportsmanship and Leadership and discussed how these core values related to soccer, family and school.
The most popular part of each camp is the Camp World Cup. The coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about life, customs and traditions of other countries. The campers are asked to make up cheers, bring flags, dress up and learn as much as they can about the country they represent.
This camp will be offered again next summer in Royse City, but upcoming camps are to be held in surrounding cities later this summer. Check www.challengersports.com for more information on the camps. For more information on the soccer program in Royse City go to www.roysecitysoccer.com.
